In August 2014, an Alfa Laval Pure Air dehumidification system was entered into a fourteen (14) month study with a regional hospital in the Bassett Healthcare Network – O’Connor Hospital located in Delhi, NY.
With consistent, monthly swab samples and lab analysis at set surgical suite and HVAC locations, the study was designed to understand the effect of liquid desiccant dehumidification technology on environmental bacteria and fungi present within the outside air supplied to a Class A surgical suite.
This technical article can be used by any hospital group or C-Suite level management team that is interested in eliminating potential microbial contamination BEFORE air enters the OR.
The Alfa Laval Pure Air SP 240 liquid desiccant dehumidification system did demonstrate the removal of viable bacteria and fungi from surfaces at the supply air to the OR and support areas – proving the system did provide significant HVAC germicidal protection.
