Hand hygiene in the perioperative setting is unique due to the multiple hand hygiene products used for different purposes. An effective hand hygiene solution begins with the right products for the right purposes in the right places. Surgical antisepsis is performed using either a waterless surgical scrub or a water-aided surgical scrub and is used prior to donning a sterile gown and gloves for operative and invasive procedures. The indications for routine hand hygiene are less understood by OR staff but should be equally emphasized. Correct placement of alcohol-based hand rub and soap and water dispensers and education is key to ensuring hand hygiene compliance. Learn about GOJO’s complete hand hygiene offerings for the OR.
