Background: Skin antisepsis with CHG containing products has been proven to be effective in the fight against healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) when included as a standard part of patient bathing protocols. Yet standardizing bathing practices throughout the healthcare facility continues to be a challenge.

Purpose: There are a lot of varying opinions about the best way to bathe a patient. Confusion remains around the differences between bathing products, and whether using CHG is “worth it” compared to soap and water.

Indications: Microorganisms found on patient’s skin may also cause an infection. Patient bathing with CHG-based skin cleanser products contributes to infection prevention because of their ability to remove or drastically reduce these microorganisms and can be beneficial for hospitalized patients throughout the facility.
